What is an intranet?

An intranet or employee portal is the internal workplace of your organisation. Below you can read what it is and how it comes together with your systems.

In short

An intranet or employee portal is an internal environment where employees find information, documents and applications. Connected to your systems, it becomes a workplace where processes and data come together, behind a secure login.

The internal workplace

An intranet is a closed online environment for your own employees. There they find information, documents, news and the applications they need, all behind a secure login. It is also called an employee portal.

Where a customer portal is outward-facing, an intranet is inward-facing. The goal is the same: getting people to the right information quickly and independently.

Connected to your systems

An intranet only becomes truly useful when it is more than a notice board. By connecting it to your ERP, HR system and other sources, it becomes a workplace where processes and data come together: a dashboard, a request or an overview, without employees having to search in ten systems.
