What is a GTIN (EAN)?
A GTIN is the globally unique number that identifies a product, known from the EAN barcode. Below you can read what it is.
A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is the globally unique number that identifies a product, the string of digits behind the EAN barcode. With a GTIN, supplier, retailer and webshop know for certain they are talking about the same item.
The number behind the barcode
A GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) is the unique number that identifies a product worldwide. The string of digits under an EAN barcode is a GTIN. Because each item has its own GTIN, supplier, retailer and webshop know for certain they are talking about exactly the same product.
GTINs are issued and managed via GS1. They are the basis underneath the checkout, stock management, EDI and e-commerce: everywhere products have to be recognised electronically.
GTIN in connections
In connections we often use the GTIN as a key to match items between systems. If the GTIN is correct on both sides, orders and stock land on the right product, without confusion over differing internal codes.
