What is a GLN?
A GLN is a globally unique number for a location or company. Below you can read what it serves for in EDI and logistics.
A GLN (Global Location Number) is a globally unique number for a location, warehouse, store or company, managed by GS1. In EDI and logistics you use GLNs to indicate precisely where something comes from or has to go.
Identifying locations uniquely
A GLN (Global Location Number) is a unique number for a physical or administrative location: a warehouse, a store, a department or an entire company. Like the GTIN for products, the GLN is managed via GS1.
With GLNs you record unambiguously in a message where something comes from and has to go, without confusion over addresses or names.
GLN in EDI
In EDI messages, GLNs are used to indicate the sender, recipient and delivery location. We ensure those numbers are filled in correctly in your orders and packing slips, so that messages reach the right party and the right warehouse.
