What is PunchOut (OCI)?

PunchOut lets a buyer order from a supplier's webshop from within their own procurement system. Below you can read how it works and for whom it is handy.

In short

PunchOut, often via the OCI standard, lets a buyer order from a supplier's webshop from within their own procurement system. The filled cart returns as a purchase requisition in the procurement system, with the correct prices and approvals. Widely used in B2B procurement.

Ordering from the procurement system

With PunchOut, a buyer jumps from their own procurement or ERP system directly to a supplier's webshop. There they compose their cart, with the correct customer-specific prices, and send it back to their procurement system. There it becomes a purchase requisition that goes through the normal approval process.

The commonly used standard for this is OCI (Open Catalog Interface). This way you combine the convenience of a modern webshop with the control and approvals of a procurement system.

For whom is it interesting?

PunchOut is especially relevant in B2B procurement, with suppliers that deliver to larger organisations. For that supplier, a PunchOut connection is a way to secure a fixed place in the customer's procurement process.
