What is data migration?
Data migration is the one-off transfer of data to a new system. Below you can read how it works and what to watch for.
Data migration is the one-off transfer of data from an old to a new system, for example during an ERP switch. Data is exported, cleaned, deduplicated and loaded in the right format, so that your history and open items are correct.
From old to new
With data migration you move existing data from an old system to a new one, for example when switching to a different ERP or webshop platform. The data is exported, cleaned and deduplicated, converted to the right format and loaded into the new system, often with the same steps as ETL.
The goal is that your history, open items and items are correct from day one, so you do not go live with a half-filled or polluted system.
Where it goes wrong, and how not to
The biggest risks are polluted source data and wrong assumptions about how fields line up. We first test a migration on a trial environment, validate the results with you and only run it for real when everything is correct.
